Anderlecht teenager Eliot Matazo has been one of the brightest prospects emerging out of the Belgium club’s academy and the midfielder has already attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.
The list includes the likes of AS Monaco, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. He is captaining Anderlecht’s Under-16 side and his fine form has helped him draw attention from at least these three clubs.
According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, the 20-time English champions are hoping to use several tactics to convince Matazo to join them ahead of other European clubs. The Red Devils are believed to have sent officials to Belgium, in order to convince the teenager to make a switch to England.
United have even used the help of their striker, Romelu Lukaku in helping them secure Matazo’s signature. The former Chelsea and Everton man came up through the ranks of Anderlecht’s academy, before making is way into their first team in 2009.
The Premier League giants are looking to take Lukaku’s help, with a hope that the Belgium international can lure the midfielder to join them. In addition to this, the Old Trafford club are also ready to offer a signing bonus that will be “slightly lower” than €3m.
Manchester United will face tough competition from Monaco, and the Ligue 1 outfit are using their track record of bringing in young players and fast tracking them to the first team as an example to convince the player to snub United for them.
If the reports from L’Equipe are to be believed, Monaco’s arguments are convincing Matazo. Monaco director general Nicolas Holveck and director of sports Michael Emenalo are in charge of the operation of bringing the Belgian teenager to Stade Louis II.
Only time will tell if Matazo will join the French club or Manchester United.
