At the beginning of the week, The Sun went big on Benny Henrichs to Chelsea, and now Bild have got hold of it.

The English newspaper stated Chelsea are ‘ready to cough up £31m for Bayer Leverkusen’s Germany starlet’.

That £31m was said to be the fullback’s release clause.

Bild have it differently.

They state Chelsea are ‘hot’ on Henrichs, and given they don’t credit anyone for that we’d have to assume it’s their own information.

Then they go to The Sun’s claims of Chelsea being prepared to pay £31m (which they put at €35.2m) but make sure to say the player has no release clause at Bayer Leverkusen.

Bild state: ‘The fact is: So far, however, Chelsea has not officially contacted Bayer. And there is no exit clause in Henrichs contract until 2022.’

Henrichs would be open to a change, largely because he’s lost his way somewhat: ‘The player should be open to a new challenge – especially as Henrichs has lost his place in the championship by very weak performances. The mixed season record: Eleven games in the starting eleven, eleven substitutions and eight times he sat only on the bench.’

That would contrast somewhat with The Sun saying Henrichs is ‘rated the Bundesliga’s best young defender’.

In Germany the slant is that Chelsea would see Henrichs as a back-up option rather than a player to come in and start. He’s a right footed right-back who can also play across the defence.

With Leon Bailey being at Bayer Leverkusen, it would be no surprise if Chelsea scout the club regularly.
