On Tuesday, we covered stories from the Portuguese press which claimed Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur would be all watching the Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes in the match against Benfica this weekend.
Those reports had come from newspaper A Bola, and today, it’s O Jogo who confirms that the Blues and the Reds will indeed have scouts in that game.
The outlet claims that the English duo and Atletico Madrid will all have eyes on him this Saturday, in what should be a ‘fire proof’ game for him.
The clubs are all interested in the intensity the Lisbon derby will have, especially at this stage of the season, and Bruno knows his performance will be decisive for the transfer market attempts.
Tottenham Hotspur even get a mention in the story, when O Jogo says that Premier League clubs will have a lot of money to spend on the player. But the Spurs’ presence at the Estádio de Alvalade isn’t confirmed by the outlet.
The most interesting claim coming from this story is Bruno Fernandes’ price. Even though local papers have been saying that Sporting have no intention to sell and will demand his €100m release clause, O Jogo now says that €50m could be enough to buy the midfielder. That sounds a lot more reasonable.
But in all reality, it’s probable the claim Liverpool and Chelsea are watching Bruno is an educated guess. There’s plenty of other talent also on display.
