When Carlos Carvalhal was manager of Sheffield Wednesday, the club were constantly in the Portuguese media.
Every result was covered and the Championship club were often linked with buying players from Portugal.
There was good reason for that, Carvalhal had shown a clear plan of trying to recruit from the country, and under the manager Sheffield Wednesday started scouting Portuguese matches repeatedly.
That hasn’t changed now Carvalhal has gone, with the club continuing to have officials at matches there. In Portugal, club’s publish official scouting lists, meaning it’s open knowledge which clubs have their spies present.
Portuguese newspaper Record report Sheffield Wednesday had someone at the match between Benfica and Tondela on Saturday.
It was an exciting and surprising match, with visitors Tondela winning 3-2.
There’s no indication who the Sheffield club were watching, but there were also scouts from Manchester United, Nantes, Lens, Eintracht Frankfurt, Rayo Vallecano and Dynamo Kyiv present.
