Over the past month or so, the Italian press have been very interested in the future of Zorya Luhansk’s young goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
The 19-year-old, who already has a Ukraine cap to his name, has impressed a number of big clubs around Europe this season, including Inter and Juventus.
On top of the Serie A pair, the likes of Gazzetta dello Sport have been adamant that Arsenal are also after the youngster as they start preparations to find Petr Cech’s successor.
While there’s never been direct confirmation of this, Thursday saw the publication of an interview on UA-Football in Ukraine with Irakly Hvedeliani, an agent who has worked with the young shot stopper in the past.
Name dropping Leicester, Hvedeliani also gave the clearest indication yet Arsenal could very well be in the mix to sign the 19-year-old when he said: “A couple of days ago, I spoke with representatives from another English club. While I cannot say more, just add this team is one in London.”
Coincidence? Maybe, but most likely not.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, if they are the ones who contacted the agent, they’ll have to go through Lunin’s father to sort out a transfer, as Hvedeliani was recently told they wouldn’t need his help to sort out a transfer.
As for how much he would cost the Gunners: “I think Zorya will let him go for €5-6m, but on the conditions they get paid immediately and in full.”
