The Catalan press get bored easily, and so on Friday Sport have a big claim about a transfer target who hasn’t been covered so much recently.
‘On the hunt for Rodrygo, the new Neymar’ say Sport, and then explain how they believe the current situation stands.
Barcelona are initiating their steps to sign the Santos player, with there being widespread agreement he’s going to be a ‘world star’. The club want to secure Rodrygo, and make sure no other team (probably Real Madrid) can swoop in and get the 17 year before them.
A representative of the club has already contacted the player’s entourage and the response has left a positive feeling. Barcelona are in ‘pole position’ and now need to negotiate a deal with Santos.
Rodrygo has a €50m buyout clause and whilst Santos would point to this to begin negotiations, Barcelona are obviously going to want to pay less.
There’s ‘absolute conviction’ at Barcelona that they’ve found a special player and need to do all they can to sign him.
With Rodrygo turning 18 years of age in January 2019, that’s the time clubs usually make their moves, and Barcelona want to be in ahead of the competition.
