Steven Defour, who believes he only has a 5% chance of making Belgium’s World Cup squad in the summer, could be on his way out from Burnley, if HLN’s Kristof Terreur is to be believed.
According to the Belgian journalist, the former Anderlecht midfielder is a target for a couple of Premier League sides, who remain unnamed for now, with both clubs having made enquiries about his services.
Currently recovering from an injury, Defour is expected to be back in June, which would just about make him eligible for the World Cup, but having played so little recently, that seems unlikely.
As pointed out by Kristof Terreur, the Burnley midfielder has a year left on his current deal with the Clarets, who also have an option to extend it for an extra season.
Having paid just under £8m for him back in 2016, it remains to be seen how much Sean Dyche and co. would ask for the Belgium international, but taking age and contract into consideration, we can’t see it being excessive, even with the Premier League premium.
Prior to his injury, the 29-year-old had made 24 appearances for the Turf Moor based side, scoring one goal and picking up one assist.
