David de Gea’s performance against Sevilla in the Champions League was always likely to prompt more claims of a potential World Cup move, and Marca haven’t let anyone down in that regard.
In their Friday edition the Spanish newspaper go big on De Gea and say Manchester United value him at €100m. That’s more than double the current record for a goalkeeper, and Marca say it’s come straight from the Glazers.
The Spanish newspaper state: ‘The North American leaders, before the possibility of movements around the goalkeeper, have assessed his transfer value is €100m, neither one more nor one less.’
Marca are clearly hugely impressed with De Gea’s performance, saying the Manchester United player ‘once again impressed the whole world’.
But this doesn’t mean they believe Real Madrid will run in waving that €100m.
The higher the price goes, the more difficult the transfer is for the La Liga club to sanction, according to the claims, and they haven’t completely decided what they want to do with Keylor Navas yet.
€100m doesn’t sound too unreasonable, given how transfer fees have gone, and it may be a case of De Gea playing so well he actually prices himself out of a Manchester United exit.
