At the beginning of the month Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira was injured playing for loan club Valencia against Barcelona.
A tough but seemingly normally natured tackle from Sergi Roberto left Pereira in pain, and, as often happens in Spain, the medical reports were extensive.
Pereira had ruptured of fibres of the vast intermediate’ and had a ‘intramuscular hematoma’ along with a ‘contusion in the anterior rectus’.
Less dramatically… he had a muscle tear, bleeding around the muscle, and a great big bruise.
At the time it was said the Manchester United owned player would be out for at least a month, which came as a blow to his efforts to prove he’s right for going against Jose Mourinho and choosing a loan.
The injury came on February 1st, so Pereira wouldn’t be due back yet, but Mundo Deportivo are talking up an issue with the player’s injury.
In their Tuesday edition the Spanish newspaper state: ‘Andreas Pereira traveled to Asturias yesterday to visit the doctor Antonio Maestro, a trusted physician of technician Marcelino García Toral.
‘The Brazilian is recovering from the injury that Barça player Sergi Roberto inflicted in the first leg of the Copa del Rey ‘semis’ (tear of post-traumatic fibers of the vast intermediate, with intramuscular hematoma and a concussion in the anterior rectus of the left thigh). It has been 20 days off when it was forecast a minimum of three weeks, but it could be five or six.”
The parameters appear to have been changed in retrospect, with it being explained Pereira could now be out double the time that was expected.
Putting the timeframe to one side, it’ll be a worry for Manchester United that Pereira is having to see a specialist again about an issue that didn’t seem so serious to start with.
