Manchester United had an official at Thursday evening’s match between Nice and Lokomotiv Moscow, report France’s SFR.
With the likelihood Manchester United were watching the home side, the most obvious option is Jean-Michael Seri. Almost moving to Barcelona in the summer window, Seri can leave Nice for €40m and could be an option for the club if Jose Mourinho wishes to play a 4-3-3.
There’s been much talk recently about Manchester United’s formation and getting the most out of Paul Pogba, and should Mourinho plump for a change in formation then a midfield addition or two is likely.
The Old Trafford club haven’t been one of those most linked with Seri but there’s much time for that to change and the whole point of sending a scout would be to find out more about the 26 year old and how he would fit in at Manchester United.
Another option would be Wylan Cyprien, who played in a three with Seri and Pierre Lees-Melou last night. But Cyprien is a more attacking player, so not the more defensive addition Mourinho could be keen on.
Going further back, central defender Malang Sarr has previously been linked with Manchester City, and SFR claim Barcelona are watching him.
Unfortunately, none of those mentioned had a great game as the Russian side won 3-2.
Both of Nice’s goals were scored by Mario Balotelli, he’s represented by Mino Raiola… that would be a fun rumour.
Man United’s Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho problem: Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
Shades of same problems Deschamps had: “I’m not going to build the team around Paul…. he needs to adapt.”
And what L’Equipe said, then and now.
