The Brazilian press never really followed Emerson Palmieri’s links to Chelsea very close, but now confirms the player is indeed moving to Stamford Bridge.
Today, website UOL has a report saying the left-back is arriving in London on Tuesday afternoon, and after passing his medicals, will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract, which will run until 2022.
The outlet confirms that Edin Dzeko was supposed to be included in the deal, but the double transfer collapsed once the striker couldn’t find a personal agreement with the blues.
Regarding Palmieri, Chelsea will be initially paying £17.5m up front, with a bigger amount to be reached in case of performance bonuses.
Emerson never really got much attention in Brazil as he didn’t have much time to succeed in his home country. He wasn’t a regular starter for Santos when he was sent to Palermo on a loan deal in 2014, and ended up never going back, since he was loaned again and later bought by Roma in a €2m deal last summer.
The Italian press have said this deal is done repeatedly, and repeatedly it’s dragged on. With the press from Emerson’s home country now joining in, this looks all firmed up for Chelsea.
