Claims from England over Gareth Bale potentially returning to Tottenham as part of a deal for Harry Kane have found a welcoming home in the Catalan media.
As we’ve explained repeatedly, the Madrid leaning sport media are big fans of Kane but there’s been no great pushing of a transfer rumour. Fans have backed the potential signing, but it’s accepted at Madrid that Kane would be ridiculously difficult to get, and there’s always the worry he wouldn’t adapt.
However, the Catalan media love talking up supposed Real Madrid efforts for the Tottenham player, if only so they can then point and laugh at perceived failure. Add to that a chance to portray Gareth Bale as a great big flop, and Sport are as happy as a pig in muck.
Giving a full page and big headlines to the idea of Bale returning to Tottenham for Kane, with €150m making up the difference, so the biggest transfer negotiation of all time, Sport say Kane is the ‘main objective’ of Real Madrid and they’re set to battle with ‘hard-man’ Daniel Levy.
It also gives Sport a chance to talk down Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, so all the better.
And that’s why a Spanish newspaper have so excitedly blown up claims from England, despite them likely knowing it’s utter nonsense.
