Back in November, there was a handful of articles regarding Manchester United’s interest in Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini.
The young midfielder has been used sporadically by Eusebio Di Francesco following his return from his loan at Sassuolo, but that’s mostly because of the options already ahead of him in the pecking order.
There’s no denying AS Roma rate the 21-year-old very highly, and that showed when they included a €25m release clause in his contract when he’d barely kicked a ball for them.
Manchester United were said to have called Pellegrini’s agent to find out more about the clause, and they were probably told what has just been reported by Il Tempo: it’s now increased to €30m.
In the grand scheme of things, that doesn’t change much for the Red Devils, as €5m isn’t exactly going to stop them from triggering a transfer if they really want the AS Roma starlet.
Il Tempo also explain that, as things stand, the Serie A outfit have no intention of cancelling said clause, and that is despite the fact Manchester United, Juventus and AC Milan have all made their interest in him known.
Currently fourth in the pecking order, behind Radja Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman and Daniele De Rossi, his intention is to break up that trio, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon.
And that is why, Il Tempo state, he’ll decide what he wants to do going forward at the end of the season.
