Since promotion to the Premier League, Newcastle United have bee linked to countless players, with some nonsense rumours included.
But some of the claims which weren’t really hyped up were quickly forgotten. That was the case of Nicolás Tagliafico from Independiente.
Newcastle were said to be negotiating for the left-back early in the summer, but for some reason there was no deal, and the rumours disappeared.
Now Tagliafico is back in the news, as according to Calcio Mercato today, Napoli have sent emissaries to watch his performance in the Sudamericana final against Flamengo last Wednesday.
The website claims that besides Napoli, Fiorentina and Torino are also interested in the 25-year-old, who made his international debut for Argentina this year.
Newcastle and Sevilla, who ‘followed the player in a concrete way’ during the transfer window, are now forgotten, with the website having no info if these clubs could be back or not.
It would be strange to see Newcastle losing interest in the player after the summer, since Independiente have been having a great Sudamericana campaign and now only need a draw to lift the trophy in Brazil next week.
But in case they still have an eye on him, Benitez better hurry up, because a continental title would surely attract more competition, and Independiente will be more ready to sell once the tournament is over.
