In the past few days, the Portuguese press has contained a lot of stories saying Seydou Doumbia could be off from Sporting in the January window.
Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande are reportedly keen on signing the striker, and the Lions are unlikelly to make many efforts to hold him.
But newspaper A Bola comes up with an interesting new information today, saying that Premier League clubs are also in competition to take him in January.
They don’t say which club could do that, but the competition exists and could face Guangzhou in the race for the 29-year-old.
We’ve checked who has been linked to Doumbia this year, and apparently Everton were interested at the end of the transfer window.
In late September, O Jogo reported Everton made contact to become aware of the conditions to sign the striker, although the talks apparently didn’t go further than that.
That report didn’t have much info on the player’s price, but today O Jogo claims that €15m will be enough to take the player to China.
So in case Everton are still interested, they must rush and get Doumbia before Guangzhou. It looks like a bargain for this price, even because he has a €60m release clause. But with only two goals scored this season, we’re not so sure the Toffees will still be convinced to sign him.
