Former Aston Villa Peter Crouch has revealed he wasn’t aware of Aston Villa fans getting on his back during his time at the club.
Crouch spent two seasons at Villa Park, but failed to make a real impact during his time with the club.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, the former England international was asked if he was aware of the flak he was getting from Aston Villa fans: “I wouldn’t say Villa fans got on my back, really. I was coming up against players like Tony Adams and Sol Campbell, and I was the sort of same height I am at the moment, but about three stone lighter. I wasn’t really ready for the top flight, but Graham Taylor believed in me.”
Crouch played just 37 league games during his time with Aston Villa, scoring six goals. During the 2002-03 season the forward went 18 Premier League games without scoring, and subsequently didn’t get regular games.
The 36 year old left Aston Villa for Southampton, a move which helped kickstart his career. Crouch would go on to play for Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham Hotspur and his current club Stoke City.
He’s also represented England 42 times, scoring an impressive 22 goals.
