Released by Manchester City over the summer when his contract finally reached its end, Bacary Sagna is still without a club.
The 34-year-old was linked with many sides in the months following his Etihad exit, including Leicester City, with Craig Shakespeare even making the Foxes’ interest in the veteran public.
West Ham and even Chelsea (briefly) were also mentioned, yet the former Arsenal defender remains jobless, training with a personal coach as he seeks new employment.
Speaking to L’Yonne Républicaine in France as he inaugurated a new 3G pitch in Sens, Sagna revealed what happened over the summer, and even hinted he turned down Leicester’s offer.
He said: “I had deals from clubs, but they didn’t please me. I wanted to prioritise London, for my family, who I think a lot about. It was my priority because I’ve been there for seven years.
“I had contacts with clubs in London. Some rather advanced, but then, from one day to the next, nothing. I believe in destiny. If it didn’t work out, it’s that it was meant to be. Not everything is rosy in a career. I could have gone to train with Arsenal, but I really wanted to earn being part of a group.”
Now desperate to play football, the right-back made it clear he ‘doesn’t have any limits’ anymore when it comes to who he plays for.
Perhaps he should have done that over the summer to.
After all, Leicester isn’t that far away from London.
