Everton scouts watched Benfica’s 6-0 win over Vitória de Setúbal on Sunday, report Portuguese newspaper Record.

The Toffees sent emissaries for the league game, although there’s no information on who they were watching.

This is the third time the Merseyside club have had officials at the Estádio da Luz this season, suggesting something, or someone, has caught the eye.

Great overall performance

Benfica had a fantastic team display in the win, which means there were several players who impressed, from defence to attack.

Luisão, Pizzi and Filip Krovinovic were those most praised by the local newspapers, although an assist and goal from André Almeida and a brace from Jonas should be highlighted as well.

Summer target getting few chances

Everton were much linked to a Benfica player in the summer, Raul Jimenez. But the Mexican international had an unrealistic price-tag back then, with Benfica demanding at least €40m.

We’ve always pointed out that it was too much for such a player, and proof of that is he never left the bench yesterday.

With only two goals in 19 appearances this season, the striker continues struggling to get a starting spot in the team.

This form could push him to a transfer soon, and this time, for a reasonable price. At least as long as Benfica don’t go out of their minds again.

Is Raul Jimenez good enough for Everton? It would certainly be a gamble, but as chunks continue to fall away from Goodison Park’s bright new future, at least the striker is likely to be available.

Everton aren’t quite at the beggars-can’t-be-choosers point, but they’re now less attractive than in the summer.
