Shortly after David Moyes took charge at West Ham, Cédric Bakambu was again linked to the club by Marca. The Spanish newspaper reported that West Ham were set to return with a second effort to sign the striker in January, after already pushing in the summer.

The new effort would be led by Moyes, of course, but backed by the club who were said to have already put €25m on the table for an earlier transfer. With Javier Hernandez perhaps not having the desired impact yet at West Ham, Bakambu was presented as a reasonable option.

With 11 goals so far this season, Bakambu has been backing up his status, and Villarreal’s decision to turn down offers in the summer. After a mini goal drought, the 26 year old scored two on Thursday night against FC Astrana, helping his side through to the next stage of the Europa League.

The €25m offer doesn’t really sound too far off in all fairness, or West Ham vastly undervaluing a player. If Marca are correct and Moyes does return for the club in January, as the Spanish newspaper expect, then something a little over that figure, to adjust for a winter premium, wouldn’t be a bad offer.

Villarreal would likely think otherwise, so it could be wise for West Ham to look elsewhere.
