Despite Espanyol denying it closer to the time, Catalan newspaper Sport won’t let go of their claim Manchester City offered €20m for Aaron during the summer transfer window.
Sport have previously explained the denial as referring to an official offer, whereas they again state on Thursday that Manchester City simply put the offer on the table.
Take that as you will.
Over the past few months, Aaron links to Manchester City have popped up every week or so, with Manchester United also added to the story, perhaps for drama.
In Sport’s Thursday article, Jose Mourinho’s club are again mentioned, but it’s Pep Guardiola’s side with the longer back story, and of course €20m already put on the table.
Aaron himself has now been asked about the interest, and the Espanyol fullback gave the perfectly professional response: “It’s a compliment to know they are following you, but I only think of Espanyol and I’m very happy here. I don’t feel pressured but motivated, focused on training well and helping my teammates.”
According to the Catalan newspaper, Aaron’s clause is €30m but it goes up in June 2018 to €40m. There’s no indication whether Manchester City can take advantage of the lower figure in the winter window.
