Ever since news filtered through to the Algerian press that Islam Slimani wanted out of Leicester City, the media’s respective websites have had a field day writing articles about the former Sporting CP striker.
Said to be looking for an exit in January, the Foxes’ record signing is said to have attracted interest from clubs such as Crystal Palace, Rennes in France, and also Watford, where his former manager Marco Silva is currently in charge.
As if that wasn’t enough, more clubs have now been added to the list, with Newcastle United, Everton and West Ham all said to be after the Algeria international, according to Le Buteur.
We’ve already looked at why Everton should be interested, and it seems they realised Slimani would be as close to a Romelu Lukaku replacement as they can get on the current market.
As for West Ham and Newcastle, both have struggled to get their strikers to score this season, as Javier Hernandez hasn’t exactly been as regular with his goals as in the past, while Joselu is currently Rafael Benitez’s top scorer in the Premier League, with two in 10 appearances.
Unlikely to let Slimani go on a loan, Leicester will want a large sum of money for the man they spent £28m just a year ago, so it all comes down to who has the money.
Everton certainly do, and West Ham were prepared to spend a similar amount on William Carvalho.
As for Newcastle, that remains to be seen.
