According to a claim in the Swedish media Watford have tabled a bid for IFK Goteborg goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg.
With the 36 year old Heurelho Gomes not getting any younger the Premier League side are looking to the future, and it seems they may land the highly rated youngster.
The 19 year old has been linked with move to England in recent weeks with Everton and Sunderland also reported to be interested in the youngster.
Expressen state Dahlberg is close to being sold for a record fee for a Swedish goalkeeper leaving the Allsvenskan, with claims Watford are in final negotiations to sign the IFK No.1.
It’s been revealed the transfer fee will be in the region of 30m-40m Swedish Krona (£2.7m to £3.6m). However, Watford are still likely to still face competition from other clubs say Expressen, after reports Napoli and Bundesliga sides could be looking to hijack the deal.
In September we covered reports from Sweden that Everton and Sunderland could move in on Dahlberg in the new year, after claims IFK could offload him due to cost cutting measures.
Everton were reportedly looking to sign a third choice keeper in the last window after they were strongly linked with Eloy Room, but with the Dutchman signing for PSV instead, Dahlberg became an option for the Merseyside club.
There’s also been doubts over the future of Joel Robles at Goodison Park after reports in the last window he could return to Spain.
Sunderland were also in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Jordan Pickford leaving the Stadium of Light in the last window to sign for Everton.
