Considering Everton’s situation, any manager being more interested in an another job shouldn’t be good news for the club’s fans, but considering how badly the links to Walter Mazzarri were received, perhaps Corriere dello Sport’s article on Wednesday will come as a relief to the Goodison Park faithful.
Over the past few weeks, it seemed that someone in Italy was very keen on getting the former Watford manager on the Toffees bench, but there’s another job he could end up taking, and it’s far from Liverpool.
According to the aforementioned Italian newspaper, Mazzarri is one of the two favourites to replace Vincenzo Montella at AC Milan after the young coach’s recent struggles to get his new multi million squad to gel.
The Serie A side currently find themselves 11th in the league after nine games with 13 points, while arch rivals Inter sit top with a game in hand following the appointment of Luciano Spalletti.
Having managed Inter and Napoli in the past, Corriere dello Sport say Mazzarri doesn’t exactly need to apply for the role, as AC Milan’s director of football, Marco Fassone, already knows him well.
Whether the former Watford man is the answer to their problems remains to be seen, but having had far more success in Italy than he did during his one season in charge of Watford, perhaps staying clear from the Everton job is a wise choice.
