Leeds United summer singing Felix Wiedwald has told the German media Tomas Christiansen left him out of Saturday’s game against Bristol City because he was fatigued.
Speaking to Deich Stube, the Leeds United goalkeeper was asked why he was demoted to the bench for his side’s 3-0 victory at the weekend: “Not really. The coach said that I’ve had a lot of games in a short time before and I would need a break. I would not be used to it. And it is true, you really have to get used to playing always on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
“In addition the journeys. We have a 24 club league with 46 games – plus two cup contests. I’ve noticed that I’ve become tired.”
Wiedwald signed for Leeds United from Werder Bremen in the last window, and he got off to an impressive start with the Championship side.
Christiansen’s side were solid in defence in the opening games of the season, and subsequently Leeds United topped the league table early in the campaign.
However, up until the win over Bristol City Leeds United’s results in the league had been poor in recent weeks, which has resulted in the club dropping down the table.
Last week there was speculation Wiedwald would be dropped by Christiansen because of his recent performances, but, as far as the goalkeeper himself is concerned, the Leeds United boss is letting his summer signing rest.
