Mathieu Debuchy is set to be released from the dungeons of Arsenal today and get a game against Red Star Belgrade, report L’Equipe, and this should be of interest to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The French newspaper say that Brighton, along with Ligue 1 side Nice, were keen on Debuchy during the summer window, but a move didn’t materialise.
Since then it’s been difficult for any clubs to watch Debuchy and work out if their interest is worthwhile.
Out of Arsene Wenger’s Premier League plans, the Frenchman hasn’t had a minute of senior action during the current campaign, and tonight is the chance for clubs to see what level the forgotten man is at.
Should Brighton still hold any level of interest then it’s a chance not to be missed. Whether they send a scout to Belgrade, or watch from a distance, it’s a chance which may not be repeated for a while.
With the January window on the horizon, Debuchy needs to snatch this opportunity and impress, but that’s going to be difficult given his lack of game time.
