Speaking to Het Belong Van Limburg ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifier against Bosnia on Saturday, the 28-year-old said with a smile: “Throughout the years, we have grown together and become really good friends. I can hardly play without him. If I ever go to another club, he’ll have to come with me”.

As for whether or not he’s better than his national teammate Romelu Lukaku, Alderweireld didn’t want to particularly enter that debate, merely saying the two were ‘in the same bracket’, but couldn’t compare the two as he didn’t train with the Manchester United forward on a daily basis.
