Earlier, we relayed an article from Record claiming that William Carvalho, despite being at the centre of one of the more prominent (and funny) end of transfer window sagas, was trying to put it all behind him, acting as professional as ever.
While the defensive midfielder might be trying to move on from the idea of moving to West Ham, the London club has not.
According to Correio da Manhã, the Hammers are continuing to keep an eye on the 25-year-old, having sent a scout to Moreirense’s stadium at the weekend, as they watched Sporting CP limp their way to a 1-1 draw.
The Portuguese newspaper make it clear that’s who Slaven Bilic’s side were there for, and it makes sense.
The problem here is, no matter how interested they are in William Carvalho, they would still have to deal with Bruno de Carvalho, who might make decide to make a point by refusing all sale to West Ham unless they meet the €45m release clause.
And even then, forced to accept, you can bet he’d probably make life hell for David Sullivan and David Gold in some shape or form.
West Ham’s perseverance is admirable, but we’ll have to see if it pays off in the end.
