Inaki Williams seems to be quizzed on Liverpool interest in every interview he does. The Athletic Club Bilbao player has this time been speaking to AS and after the Spanish newspaper spoke about a resemblance with Ousmane Dembélé, both in playing style and looks, they came around to interest from other clubs.
When asked about Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool being keen on his services, Williams explained it pleases him to be the subject of interest from such clubs, or to even be linked with them in media: “That big teams are interested in you or you can see yourself linked to them, you like it, it’s a sign that you’re doing well.”
Williams was then asked if he feels he’s worth €50m, what Marca say is the player’s current release clause in Bilbao: “I don’t know what I’m worth. The president put that clause and what has to come will come.”
In the current market, a fee of €50m certainly sounds reasonable and if Inaki Williams is on Liverpool’s radar then paying the clause is likely to be something they’ve considered, because that’s the only way to get him from Athletic.
Jurgen Klopp’s team doesn’t really have a great need for Williams right now, unless the manager wants even more strength upfront, but should a player leave next summer then things will certainly change.
However, by that time Athletic may have done something about the 23 year old’s clause.
