Newcastle United, Swansea City, and Manchester City are the lucky Premier League clubs to this week have players in Gazzetta’s European selection.
Each week the grand old Italian newspaper picks out an eleven as their European Team of the Week, based on the performances of the previous weekend’s round of games.
Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles finds his way into the team, after scoring the winning goal against Stoke City. Lascelles has had a great start to the season, and it was the defender’s second Premier League goal in the current campaign.
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero joins Lascelles, after picking up a hat-trick and an assist in the 6-0 away demolition of Watford. Gazzetta award Aguero 9/10, which is a mark rarely seen by a newspaper which doesn’t hand out 7 and 8s as they were confetti.
Lukasz Fabianski gets in there for Swansea City, after a 0-0 draw with Tottenham at Wembley. Fabianksi was judged by Gazzetta to have put in the best goalkeeping performance around Europe, ignoring their own Serie A.
Whilst Manchester City often find they have a player in the Gazzetta selection, it’s not so often the case for Newcastle United and Swansea City, especially given Rafael Benitez’s men spent last season in the Championship.
