As Leeds United steam forward with a brilliant season and feel optimism all around, it’s easy to forget players like Marcus Antonsson.
Discarded as not being part of the first team squad this season, Leeds United sent Antonsson on loan to Blackburn Rovers. It’s much better for the player to get games in League One than watch in the Championship, even if he could get a free ticket for Elland Road’s current party.
It was something of a risk moving to Blackburn, because if Antonsson failed… then where would that leave him? Despite a Leeds United contract running until June 2019, League One failure would have surely seen a Sweden return, or similar.
Antonsson has responded to the presusre with two goals in two games, and that’s left him feeling much better. Quoted by Sweden’s Barometern, Antonsson explained: “Self-confidence begins to come back. It starts coming back. I felt relief after the first goal of the weekend. I had to make the 2-0 goal and it was in an important position in the match, it almost felt like the most beautiful goal in my career.”
But what does Antonsson think about the developments at Elland Road, Leeds United’s brilliant start to the season? The 26 year old is both surprised and not: “Not completely (surprised). They have made an obvious effort, but it’s big to get a squad together so quickly, that’s not always straightforward.”
