Hürriyet claim Newcastle United made a £6m offer to sign Galatasaray attacker Garry Rodrigues in the last window, but the Turkish club turned down this down.

It’s understood Rafael Benitez is keen on the Cape Verde international after his solid start to the season with Galatasaray, but the Premier League side saw their bid rejected by the Turkish giants during the closing stages of the transfer window.

Hurriyet say Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek asked his board’s opinion about Newcastle United’s offer, and the consensus was Rodrigues is an important part of the squad, and that he must remain with Galatasaray for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle United scouts reportedly watched Rodrigues when Galatasaray beat Osmanlıspor last month, and were impressed with the player’s performance.

According to Hurriyet, Galatasaray manager Igor Tudor and CEO Cenk Ergun also didn’t want the winger to leave, and subsequently they too rejected Newcastle United’s approach.

Rodrigues has been in impressive form since the start of the season and his performances have helped Galatasaray pick up maximum points in the opening three league games. The 26 year old joined Galatasaray from PAOK for €3.5m during the 2016/2017 season.
