The transfer of Leonardo Bonucci is becoming an ‘obsession’ of Pep Guardiola’s, according to Gazzetta dello Sport per an article published on their website on Tuesday.
Updating on what could be one of the biggest transfers of the year, the Italian newspaper claim Manchester City rang Juventus multiple times to make it clear they were willing to spend €60m on the Italy international.
As far as Gazzetta are aware, Juventus are yet to respond to these pestering calls.
Down the player’s end, there was of course talk this morning of a toast made by Bonucci while on holiday that caused some concern amid Juventus fans, but his destination, were he to leave, might not be the north of England.
Gazzetta report in the same article that Chelsea have positioned themselves as strong contenders on the dossier, with Antonio Conte also looking for a new defender for next season.
The newly appointed man in charge at Stamford Bridge knows Bonucci well, having managed him during his time at the helm of Italy, which came to an end at the beginning of the month.
However, Gazzetta say that with an offer of €60m for a 29-year-old and a five-year contract of €8m/year for the player, all parties are finding it hard to ignore Manchester City for much longer.
Things could certainly accelerate quickly, especially once Bonucci comes back from holiday.
