On Christmas Eve, we covered claims from Argentina that River Plate have started talks with West Ham United’s Guido Rodríguez.

It was also stated the Hammers are willing to let the midfielder leave via a loan or sale in January.

TyC Sports journalist Juan Cortese, relayed by MDZ, discusses River Plate’s desire to sign the West Ham player in the winter market.

The Argentina international came up through River Plate’s ranks and was with them until 2016. Cortese claims they have made contacts to try and bring him back to the club in this window.

Rodríguez joined the Premier League side on a free transfer last summer and was initially a regular under Julen Lopetegui before losing prominence. This would have convinced the London club to make him available in this market.

River Plate made an approach to sign him, but the journalist claims it ‘will not be easy’ to take him away from West Ham. The change in stance is because of Graham Potter, who replaced Lopetegui on January 9th.

Cortese claims the new manager considers the 30-year-old a ‘key’ player at West Ham and this makes it complicated for the Argentine club to sign him in January.
