Monchi has been in Seville to negotiate a deal for Sevilla’s Loïc Badé but can’t use Diego Carlos as a makeweight in the deal.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report the Brazilian won’t be returning to his former club in any capacity.

The newspaper reports that Monchi is on the hunt for a centre-back this month because of Pau Torres’ injury. The current favourite is Sevilla’s Loïc Badé.

While Victor Orta has denied Monchi’s recent appearance at his former club was to discuss the defender, the truth is that ‘contacts have occurred’. The two clubs are working on the deal.

Should the Frenchman head to Villa Park, that would open the door for Diego Carlos to leave. However, a return to Sevilla has been ruled out.

The Spanish side will only accept money for Badé. They have ruled out ‘any barter’ taking place in the negotiations. This is something Estadio have been able to confirm with the club.

Sevilla clearly want it known that they will only accept cash for Badé. That means Carlos, who was a fan favourite at the club, can’t be used in part-exchange to bring the Frenchman’s price down.

It seems, therefore, that Monchi has work to do to agree a deal with his former club in the last two weeks of the January transfer window.
