Everton may be set to miss out on the signing of Ajax’s Devyne Rensch, with new sister club Roma getting him instead.

That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that the Italian side have an agreement in place with the defender.

Rensch was linked to several clubs earlier this week as his contract with Ajax is due to expire in the summer. A renewal is seen as difficult as the Dutch side want him to take a pay cut.

That has led to reports he could be on his way out. Everton and Roma were both named as suitors, with the former even opening negotiations for the 21-year-old.

Di Marzio reports they could be due to miss out though. That’s because Roma already have an agreement with the defender. They’ve secured his approval and are now looking for an agreement with Ajax.

They’ve offered €3.5m to Ajax to sign him now, but the Dutch giants currently sit at €7m. The journalist believes a deal could be done at €4.5-5m. It would be difficult for Roma to go further than that.

He makes no mention of Everton but does say Marseille and Napoli are also interested. For now, Roma are out in front, though, with the Friedkins getting their man. They’re just set to send him to their old club and not their new one.
