Over the past 24 hours, Brentford have emerged as a suitor for Benfica’s Jan-Niklas Beste.

It was suggested the Bees would need a fee of €12m to sign the winger, who has played less than 1000 minutes in all competitions for Benfica this season and is not a key part of the squad.

More information has now emerged from Portugal about Beste’s situation, with A Bola reporting that the 26-year-old has missed the last two games due to flu.

The outlet believe that Benfica will only agree to sell him if Brentford or any other clubs agree to pay €8m, because that is the amount that the Portuguese giants shelled out to sign him from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2024.

At the same time, Correio da Manha have a different stance. They have stated that Beste has asked to leave his current club, who want €12m to sell him so that they can make a profit from the sale.

They also confirm interest from Brentford, while stating that Hoffenheim want him back and Borussia Monchengladbach are an interested party.

It remains to be seen how much Benfica get from Beste’s exit but considering how the German had arrived in the summer and has failed to make a mark, making a €4m profit seems difficult.
