Sevilla director of football Victor Orta has insisted Aston Villa’s Monchi has not been at the club today to discuss transfers.

Estadio Deportivo and Marca cover comments from the Sevilla director from a press conference discussing the Spanish side’s transfer business.

Reports over the past few days have seen Aston Villa heavily linked with a move for defender Loic Badé. He is reportedly on Monchi’s list as the looks to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad this month.

A report earlier today stated that Monchi could seal the defender’s signature for Aston Villa following a trip from Damian Vidagany.

This was followed by a claim that Monchi was negotiating the transfer with his former club. He was reportedly trying to get ahead of Liverpool and Newcastle for the player. However, he needed to sell Diego Carlos first.

Either way, the transfer talks are believed to be on. In fact, some reports had Monchi visiting his former club and even being spotted there. This, of course, led to plenty of excitement. It seems, though, that Orta wants to pour cold water on such suggestions.

“There is no offer receive by the club for Kike Salas or Badé,” Estadio Deportivo report him saying when asked about both players.

They add that he ‘categorically denied’ that Monchi had been in the club’s offices. Instead, the newspaper says the Aston Villa director of football visited the club on Saturday watching the clash with Valencia.

“I don’t know, eh? No, no, Monchi hasn’t been in the Sports City today. Ok, eh?” Marca report him saying on possible visit from Monchi.

That, then, should put an end to those suggestions for the time being, although we’d suggest that there’s no smoke without fire and Orta may be protesting a little too heavily at this point.
