Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has hailed summer signing Pierre Emile Hojbjerg as key to his success this season after arriving from Tottenham.
RMC Sport cover comments from the Italian boss today in which he praises the Denmark midfielder’s performances so far this season.
Hojbjerg has been a regular for Marseille this season after joining on loan from Tottenham in the summer in a deal that is likely to be made permanent.
The 29-year-old had found himself out of favour at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou last season, with the Australian boss preferring the likes of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma.
He had been a regular at Tottenham before then following a €16.6m move from Southampton in 2020, making 184 appearances in total, the most for any club in his career.
He’s bounced back in France, featuring in 93% of the available minutes in Ligue 1 this season and the starting 11 94% of the time.
It’s a situation that’s working out for both parties so far, with Marseille currently second in Ligue 1 with ten wins from 16 games so far. De Zerbi is certainly happy with his summer signing, praising the Tottenahm loanee today.
“He gives you everything, he’s another player like Maupay,” he said.
“He brings us a lot in the game, the experience, the game without the ball. They have good exchanges with Adrien Rabiot, they reverse the roles, and it works. It’s one of the secrets of the team in terms of character, experience, everything.”
