Wolves need to add some players to Vitor Pereira’s squad in the January window, as the club’s new manager looks to steer them away from relegation worries this season.
Naturally, there’ll be eyes towards Liga Portugal where Pereira most notably managed FC Porto before going out on managerial adventures further afield.
Wolves have a record of buying players from Liga Portugal and can often count on the help of Jorge Mendes and his Gestifute agency, even if they don’t directly represent a player involved.
Indeed, the French media reported at the weekend that Emmanuel Agbadou’s move from Stade de Reims to Wolves was being overseen by Mendes.
On Tuesday, Wolves had a scout watch the match between Sporting CP and Porto, with the local Portuguese media reporting the club were transfer shopping.
O Jogo report that on Wednesday they then had someone at SL Benfica against SC Braga, doing the same thing.
There’s no obvious target, but the best performances were for Benfica, who won 3-0.
According to O Jogo, the best performer on the pitch, with two goals and an 8/10 rating, was Angel Di Maria, and we can pretty safely say he’s not moving to Wolves.
Next best was Alvaro Carreras, the young fullback Benfica bought on a permanent from Manchester United in the summer. That track also looks unlikely.
It’s hard to find clarity on who exactly Wolves have been watching in Portugal this week, but it feels like something is potentially on the cards.
