Liverpool’s Luis Díaz has heaped praise on Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán during an interview with ESPN’s Sportscenter.

The Liverpool star and the Aston Villa striker have played together for Colombia and the 27-year-old knows Durán well from their time with the national team.

Díaz arrived at Liverpool in January 2022, a year before the 21-year-old joined Aston Villa from MLS side Chicago Fire.

Durán has impressed for the Villans this season, scoring 12 goals from 25 matches in all competitions, and Unai Emery’s rewarded his impressive performances with a new deal [until 2030] back in October.

The Colombia international striker has scored four goals in Aston Villa’s last four matches, and this includes a winner against Southampton and a goal in the Villans’ league win over Manchester City last weekend.

According to the Liverpool forward, his compatriot has qualities to become the best in his position.

“From day one that I met him, that I dealt with him and that I saw him play, I already knew the conditions and qualities he had, first I said [if] this boy if he sets his mind to it can become very big, he can become history in the role he has, he can be the best striker, good that he’s living a great moment, that he’s doing well, that he’s shining in a super spectacular league,” he said.

Díaz is well aware that the Aston Villa frontman can further improve his game. The former Porto man explained this when asked about his relationship with Durán in the national team setup.

“I’m very happy for him, we shared a lot in the national team, he’s a very calm boy, he lets himself go, if he has to listen, he does it too, he’s in the process of continuing to learn like every boy, so he’ll continue to improve in what is left of his career and he’ll continue to score goals, he’ll continue to leave the country high and he’ll continue to break it, he deserves it very much,” Díaz explained.
