Nottingham Forest failed in their efforts in sign Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez in the summer window.
Two months ago, the striker stated he turned down Nottingham Forest in order to play in the Champions League with the Dutch club.
Nottingham Forest weren’t the only club to have shown interest in the 23-year-old in the last window.
The frontman revealed this during an interview TNT Sports in Mexico and his comments are relayed by Medio Tiempo. He’s now mentioned another reason for rejecting the Reds to continue at the Eredivisie side.
Nuno Espírito Santo’s side had agreed to meet the Dutch club’s demand and then gave an ultimatum to the Mexico international towards the end of the window.
“They wanted to pay what the club asked for, but in the end I decided to wait one more year here in Feyenoord, also because I had the possibility of playing in the Champions League, I had the possibility of growing, and I had the option of another team that in the end did not materialise in the last day, so I decided to wait and since Nottingham gave me one last day to say yes or no, we decided to say no,” he said.
Giménez didn’t reveal the details of another club that made an attempt to sign him. He favoured joining them over Nottingham Forest but hasn’t mentioned why the deal didn’t go through in the end.
Last week, Giménez’s father admitted he would be open to leaving Feyenoord in the near future. The player has now backed it up and insists his goal is to join a top five leagues in Europe.
“The best would be the top 5 of the best leagues, but I don’t have a team defined like that, but I let God guide me and I know that what he brings me is the best for me. To be honest, I’m not motivated by money,” Giménez explained.
