At the weekend, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Crystal Palace are in talks with both Benfica and Jan-Niklas Beste over a move in the winter market.

Tavolieri also said Benfica manager Bruno Lage has opened the exit door for the 25-year-old as he’s not met expectations.

This claim has reached Portugal, and they provide their own take on the possibility of the Beste moving to Crystal Palace.

According to O Jogo, the ‘exit door closed’ for the German who joined Benfica from 1. FC Heidenheim in the summer window.

Despite the Crystal Palace links, the report states Beste is in the Portuguese club’s plans for the rest of this season.

Over at A Bola, they make it clear Oliver Glasner’s side haven’t contacted Benfica for the left-back, who can also operate as a left winger. Lage moved him to the wing, probably because of Álvaro Carreras’ fine displays in the left-back role.

Benfica ‘will not negotiate’ with Crystal Palace for Beste in January and in this way, they have ‘closed the door’ for the Premier League side to sign him.

The German’s contract lasts until 2029 and A Bola state it includes a €50m clause, and it’s unlikely Crystal Palace would trigger that.
