Real Sociedad are confident of retaining Martín Zubimendi beyond the winter market amid Manchester City links.
La Real sporting director Roberto Olabe has addressed rumours surrounding the 25-year-old’s future and Estadio Deportivo have relayed his comments.
Manchester City star Rodri suffered a serious injury in September and will miss most part of this season.
This, coupled with the Citizens’ poor run over the last two months, have reportedly seen them look for a new midfielder in January.
On November 12th, Sport reported the La Liga side’s star is the ‘objective’ for Manchester City in the winter market.
A day later, Cope said the Spain international’s €60m release clause won’t be an obstacle for Pep Guardiola’s side. It was also stated the English champions’ interest in him won’t be ‘diluted easily’.
Fast forward to December and Estadio mention Manchester City as the Euro 2024 winner’s interested party. Despite this, Olabe insists his side are calm about the whole situation and it’s mainly because of the player.
“There’s little peace of mind about the clauses, but throughout this time Martín himself has shown us that above the clauses are the will. So far, we have seen how he has behaved, I don’t foresee any scares in January,” he said.
Last month, Zubimendi said he will handle it when addressing the Manchester City links for January.
The defensive midfielder made 21 appearances for Real Sociedad this season.
