Liverpool are now pushing to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon, with the French side expecting a ‘very hectic transfer window’ in January.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain are getting busy behind the scenes readying moves for the midfielder.
They state that the 21-year-old is currently the subject of much discussion as he shines on the pitch and is ‘bombarded’ with questions about his future any time he appears in front of the media.
He batted them off following the win over Eintracht Frankfurt, but the fact is that his future is very much up in the air.
He’s reached a turning point in his time at Lyon as clubs are taking notice of his performances and know about Lyon’s financial situation.
They’re banned from signing players in January and have been ordered to raise funds, through the likely sale of player, to avoid being relegated to the French second division.
That means everyone is up for sale and a €30m asking price has been put on Cherki already. Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool and PSG have already been named as suitors earlier this year and this remains the case.
PSG and Liverpool are the ‘most interested’ in him and are ‘pushing’ to get their hands on him in the January transfer window.
The idea is to secure his signature ‘as quickly as possible’ and avoid the competition, which will be ever fiercer next summer. What the player and Lyon intend to do, is not yet known.
FM do point out, though, that Lyon’s relations with PSG are ‘frosty’ at best, which may mean that Liverpool have an advantage in this developing race.
