Last week, Bild reported Birmingham City could make an offer for Hannover 96’s Phil Neumann in the winter market.

The 27-year-old has over six months left on his contract, and it was stated he won’t sign a new deal.

Birmingham City wanted to sign the right-back in the summer window and made a €4m bid, which was rejected by Hannover 96.

Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung points out the League One side’s failed efforts when discussing the latest about the player. His contract situation hasn’t impacted his game time as the fullback made 17 appearances this season.

Neumann is currently one of the most valuable players at the German club, but his future is likely to at Birmingham City. The report states he will ‘almost certainly’ join the Blues next summer.

Hannover 96 will have the opportunity to cash in from his sale in the next window. Even though Bild stated last week that Birmingham City could make an offer in January, HAZ now claim the player would prefer to finish the season in Germany.

This means Birmingham City will have to wait until the end of the season to secure the German’s services. Hannover 96 will see Neumann leave as a free agent and could regret rejecting the €4m bid from the English club in the summer.
