Norwich City are yet to make an offer for Cruzeiro defender Marlon, but the Brazilian club will drive him to the airport if they do so.

That’s according to journalist Jorge Nicola, who says sources at the club are treating rumours about Norwich City’s interest as fake news for the time being.

A report yesterday hinted that Norwich were keen on the 27-year-old and were out in front of potential competition for him at this moment in time.

That same report indicated a deal worth €4.5m could be enough to get the full-back to Carrow Road in the January transfer window, although it was made clear that neither Norwich nor any of the other interested parties had made an official proposal as yet.

That has naturally led to some excitement in Brazil, despite the initial report going to certain lengths to explain that it was all very much in the looking and not touching stage at this point.

Now Nicola wants to pour more cold water on any excitement that may be building, although he has offered Norwich City hope if they do move.

“I made a point of consulting two different sources on Cruzeiro to bring the most accurate information possible. Both denied that there is a proposal,” he said.

“One of these people even treated this information as fake news. Even because, if in fact there was a similar proposal, Cruzeiro would make an effort to take Marlon to the airport, so as not to run the risk of losing the business of 35 million reals.

“The assessment is that Marlon can join the team but is far from being someone to solve the problem of Cruzeiro. On the contrary, if possible, Rapoza will bring a left-back to share or fight for the position with Kaique. In this way, Marlon would be released.

“A side that has already been speculated in the Grêmio, in Corinthians and also in São Paulo. But so far, Cruzeiro guarantees that it has no official proposals.”
