Queens Park Rangers and Oxford United are both ‘seriously interested’ in signing right winger Thijmen Goppel on a free transfer next summer.
That’s according to Soccer News, who say the duo are both keen on the 27-year-old as he makes a big impression at German side Wehen Wiesbaden.
They report that ‘well established sources’ around the player have confirmed to them that QPR and Oxford have both shown an interest in the Dutch right-back.
They face competition from German side SC Verl, who play in the 3. Bundesliga at this moment in time and have already made a concrete offer to the player.
All of the sides are currently exploring whether Goppel can move to a new club in the January transfer window, with his current contract set to expire in June 2025. That means he can negotiate a pre-contract agreement under the Bosman ruling from 1 January.
Goppel has been shining in the third tier in Germany since moving there in 2021, with two goals and two assists in 13 games this season and 12 goals and 20 assists in 104 games to date.
These are figures which have been noticed by other clubs and now QPR and Oxford are showing an interest in the right-back ahead of January.
