On November 30th, we covered claims from Austria which stated Red Bull Salzburg want to sign Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber in the winter market to strengthen their defence.
Three days later, Red Bull Salzburg managing director of sport Rouven Schröder didn’t rule out a move for the 26-year-old.
On December 4th, Salzburger Nachrichten said the centre-back is on the verge of leaving Leeds United in January and only details need sorting out to complete his exit from Elland Road.
On Thursday, journalist Peter Linden stated the defender is hesitating over whether to leave the Whites for Red Bull Salzburg. He also said Daniel Farke’s side are unwilling to lower the price despite the Red Bull connection.
Laola1 state Schröder has ‘put the brakes’ on the possibility of the Austria international returning to his former club.
The director praised Wöber and explained why the deal wouldn’t be feasible, and his comments are relayed by Laola1.
“Wöber is one of three centre-backs at Leeds, and they have maximum ambitions to get into the Premier League. It will be difficult to put the money on the table,” he said.
“Not the hot stock at the moment. That has nothing to do with the player, he’s top. We might have to bake smaller rolls, even make a clever loan transfer.”
Laola1 also state Red Bull Salzburg haven’t made any contact with the Championship side for Wöber, who made five appearances this season.
