Federico Chiesa has not had a smooth time at Liverpool since arriving in the summer transfer window.
The former Juventus man has been troubled by injury and fitness worries, playing 78 minutes across all competitions with only one Premier League appearance.
There’s been talk about his premature exit from Liverpool and there were suggestions clubs in Serie A are interested.
As the player nears a return to action, Sky Italia journalist Luca Marchetti spoke to Radio Marte about the winger’s situation, revealing that the Reds were prepared to wait for Chiesa to gain full fitness when he joined the club.
He said, as relayed by AreaNapoli: “Federico made a very clear choice just a few months ago. He went to play abroad and Liverpool knew they had to wait for him, to have him at his best.”
Speaking further, Marchetti discarded the possibility of a January transfer and also stated that Napoli were interested in the Italian in the summer.
“There was the possibility of Napoli, but then he chose something else. Now the boy is ready and we will finally be able to see him at work in the Premier League. Napoli was a possibility in the summer, going back on his steps after six months is unlikely.”
Chiesa scored nine goals for Juventus in Serie A last season despite facing injury problems across the campaign.
Due to those issues, it’s wise for Arne Slot’s side to wait for the 27-year-old to return to full fitness so he can hopefully then make a mark at Liverpool.
