When the German media starts linking a player from the country with interest from clubs elsewhere, there’s a clear tendency to go way over the top and add a new name every day or so.

That appears to be the process Ibrahim Maza has been going through in recent weeks. The current edition of SportBild, out today, names two Premier League clubs as having made contact over signing the Hertha Berlin player.

Those clubs are Newcastle United and Brentford.

However, Newcastle and Brentford are far from being the only Premier League sides named recently. West Ham, Fulham, Leicester, Wolves and Southampton are also among those to have been named over the past few weeks so it’s no big exaggeration to say Maza has been linked to around half the Premier League.

Is there good reason for that? Perhaps. The 19-year-old is playing for Hertha Berlin in the 2.Bundesliga so it’s difficult to judge.

Operating as an attacking midfielder he has five goals and four assists in 15 second division games so far this season, but obviously the opposition isn’t great.

SportBild claim Atlético Madrid and VfB Stuttgart are also keen, with Bayer Leverkusen getting in contact at some point.

One for Newcastle United and Brentford fans to keep an eye on, but not especially serious at this stage.
